Man City vs Chelsea LIVE: Stream, TV channel, score and teams

£197.5m gone down the drain

The two most expensive transfers from last summer will are on display today but the net spend isn’t the only thing they have in common because neither player is yet to live up to their huge expectations.

Jack Grealish was scooped up from Aston Villa by Manchester City for £100m which at the time, seemed an honourable amount considering his influence on the success at his former club. However, the English superstar has only netted twice and registered three assists five months into his City career.

Grealish admitted to his struggles in a conversation with ex-Villa star Dion Dublin on the BBC Football Focus show by saying: “I obviously thought going to City, the best club in England, the best players, I’m going to go there and get 20 or 30 goal involvements but it ain’t been the case at all.”

As for Lukaku, the Belgian talisman has had an injury impacted £97.5m plus add ons return to Stamford Bridge which has led to his goal contributions going in a completely different direction to the three in three at the beginning of the season. Also the 28-year-olds love letter to Inter didn’t go down too well with the Chelsea fan base or Thomas Tuchel who temporarily exiled Lukaku from the squad before he apologised.

But the amazing thing about this sport is that one good performance in a game with a magnitude as this one will make erase the negativity from everyone’s mind. Will Grealish or Lukaku prove their worth this afternoon?
